Dear World Leaders,
We have already introduced World Order, explored the idea behind it, and delved into the international relations it portrays. Now, it’s time for a quick overview of the game. We’ll remind you of some key aspects of what we talked about before, but if you need a more detailed refresher, feel free to refer to our previous articles.
As you already know, World Order is our team’s brand new board game set in the decade beginning in 2010, a time when the world stood on the brink of monumental change. The once-unrivaled influence of the United States was beginning to wane, and other major powers like China, Russia, and the European Union were eagerly stepping onto the stage, ready to claim their piece of the geopolitical pie. This game combines the engaging mechanics of deck-building with the intense competition of area control, offering players an immersive experience that mirrors the complexities of modern international relations.
As a player, you will assume the role of one of these dominant global entities. Your mission? To expand your influence across the globe using your unique strengths and strategies. The world is divided into seven regions, each one a battleground for influence and power.
While the rules of World Order are the same for all players, each global power has unique advantages and disadvantages. Not only in terms of available actions but also in terms of resource production, location on the map and available allies. This means every game will require you to adapt your strategies based on your nation’s strengths and weaknesses. China, for example, might excel in economic investments, the United States in military and diplomatic capabilities, while the European Union uses its diplomatic influence and Russia takes advantage of its energy capabilities and hard power.
Your actions in World Order are resolved through card play. You all start with a unique deck, which can be enhanced during the game. During each round, you ‘ll draw cards and play them to pursue your agenda, while also getting the chance to add more cards to your deck with different and exciting effects.
Your main goal in the game is to increase your Influence around the world. Each region consists of multiple countries, in the form of small cards, and utilizing your alliances with those countries in multiple ways will help you achieve your goals. You will have 3 main ways to interact with them and increase your Influence:
- Diplomacy: Strengthen the diplomatic ties between your countries and actively engage in local affairs. Hone your diplomatic skills and use your existing allies as leverage to sway other nations.
- Economy: Invest in foreign countries and create economic dependencies. Not only will you increase your foothold in the region, these investments will yield returns for you at the end of each round.
- Military: Establish military bases around the globe and deploy forces to exert control and show your opponents you are a force to be reckoned with.
Interaction is at the heart of World Order. Players will constantly fight for the most Influence in each region, but will also trade with each other or form temporary alliances. Every round you will need to reevaluate your stategy, since other players will be keen on ruining your plans. Not to mention having to deal with foreign armies right next to your borders…
Beyond its mechanics, World Order offers a deeply immersive experience. Every action and decision mirrors real-world international relations, adding tension and strategy to each session while also providing players with a glimpse into the complexities of global politics and economics.
